How to split a panorama into carousel slides

Calculate your canvas, preserve edge pixels and check a swipe sequence. Includes a numbered example you can run in the splitter.

Start with the final sequence

Decide how many slides the story needs before dividing the image. A split is useful when a diagram, scene or visual explanation continues across slides. It can make a normal document harder to read when a heading or sentence crosses a seam.

Our splitter preserves the whole image and its height. It does not automatically choose a crop that matches a social platform. Use dimensions appropriate to your destination and verify its current guidance separately.

Calculate the canvas

For equal slices, canvas width equals slide width multiplied by slide count. The canvas height equals the slide height. A 3240 × 1350 image divided into three vertical slices produces three 1080 × 1350 images. These numbers are a worked example, not a statement of platform requirements.

If the width is not divisible by the count, preserve all pixels by allowing a one-pixel difference. For a 1001-pixel-wide image and three cuts, boundaries at 0, 333, 667 and 1001 give widths of 333, 334 and 334. Discarding the remainder would lose part of the source.

Run the numbered example

  • Open the carousel image splitter and choose Try numbered example.
  • Leave the count at three. The synthetic source has a green 1, amber 2 and orange 3.
  • Download the ZIP and check that slide-01, slide-02 and slide-03 follow that order.
  • Try a different count. A number that crosses a seam demonstrates why composition needs a manual check even when the cuts are mathematically correct.

Inspect the seams

Look at adjacent exports side by side. A line should continue without a missing strip or repeated section. Then view each image alone: every slide should still make sense when encountered outside the sequence.

Avoid placing a face, small label or essential word directly on a cut. Move it in the source design and export again. Stretching a tile after cutting changes how the seam lines up.

Post in sequence

Use the ordered filenames to select the slides, then inspect the platform's preview. A swipe carousel and a profile grid have different arrangement problems; do not reverse a carousel sequence based on profile-grid advice. Keep the original source so you can change the count or composition without repeatedly recompressing the exported tiles.
